  • President's Letter to the Membership

2016 was a very historic year for Kia Kima. For starters it celebrated its 100th birthday. OKKPA set aside the weekend of September 15-18 for a special celebration to commemorate this achievement. Ron Naro served as the chair for the 100th Anniversary and supplied two years of leadership to make it a memorable event. Cherokee Village brought awareness of Old Kia Kima to the community by sponsoring a breakfast and assisting with media coverage. A guest for the 100th Anniversary dedication was US Senator John Boozman of Arkansas. Speaking on behalf of the Northeast area of Arkansas was its state senator Linda Collins-Smith who read a proclamation from the Arkansas senate acknowledging the camp. 2017 Fall Board Meeting / Annual Meeting / Reunion / Homecoming

    September 14 - 17, 2017

As before, we will gather on the banks of the Southfork River for fellowship and good food. Put this date on your 2017 calendar now - don't miss it.

    The Old Dining Hall

Work is well underway converting the Old Dining Hall into an Activities Pavilion designed to provide a place for youth groups to get out of inclement weather or relief from a hot summer day. The basic premise is to restore the building to its original structure with screened windows, lights and ceiling fans , along with a storage room for keeping activity materials such as games. It will also serve as a storage area for the adjacent bath house. Construction got underway the weekend of October 8-10 and continued the week of October 26th. The framing and screen windows and doors should be completed in time for the 2016 camping season with the goal of completing this project in time for the 100th Anniversary in September 2016. OKKPA, as you know, is comprised of men and women who volunteer their time and money to make our mission a reality. Two of our members have issued a challenge that for every dollar donated towards the Activities Pavilion they will match it up to $6,000.00. So far members have donated $1,300.00 which has been matched, providing $2,600.00 in funding up to this point. The Board of Directors in September approved an expenditure of up to $5,000.00 for the Activities Pavilion, of which $2,400.00 has been spent thus far.
